1主耶和华指示我一件事：为王割菜之后，菜又发生，刚发生的时候，主造蝗虫。 | 1Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings. |
2蝗虫吃尽那地的青物，我就说：“主耶和华啊，求你赦免！因为雅各微弱，他怎能站立得住呢？” | 2And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small. |
3耶和华就后悔说：“这灾可以免了。” | 3The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD. |
耶和华允祈免灾 | Jehovah allows prayer to avoid disasters |
4主耶和华又指示我一件事：他命火来惩罚以色列，火就吞灭深渊，险些将地烧灭。 | 4Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part. |
5我就说：“主耶和华啊，求你止息！因为雅各微弱，他怎能站立得住呢？” | 5Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small. |
6耶和华就后悔说：“这灾也可免了。” | 6The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD. |
以准绳表以色列不复蒙赦宥 | Use the yardstick to show that Israel will no longer be forgiven |
7他又指示我一件事：有一道墙是按准绳建筑的，主手拿准绳站在其上。 | 7Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand. |
8耶和华对我说：“阿摩司啊，你看见什么？” 我说：“看见准绳。” 主说：“我要吊起准绳在我民以色列中，我必不再宽恕他们。 | 8And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more: |
9以撒的丘坛必然凄凉，以色列的圣所必然荒废。我必兴起，用刀攻击耶罗波安的家。” | 9And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword. |

10伯特利的祭司亚玛谢打发人到以色列王耶罗波安那里，说：“阿摩司在以色列家中图谋背叛你。他所说的一切话，这国担当不起。 | 10Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words. |
11因为阿摩司如此说：‘耶罗波安必被刀杀，以色列民定被掳去离开本地。’” | 11For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land. |
12亚玛谢又对阿摩司说：“你这先见哪，要逃往犹大地去，在那里糊口，在那里说预言。 | 12Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: |
13却不要在伯特利再说预言，因为这里有王的圣所，有王的宫殿。” | 13But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court. |
阿摩司自述其奉召做先知 | Amos recounts his call to be a prophet |
14阿摩司对亚玛谢说：“我原不是先知，也不是先知的门徒。我是牧人，又是修理桑树的。 | 14Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: |
15耶和华选召我，使我不跟从羊群，对我说：‘你去向我民以色列说预言。’ | 15And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel. |
预言亚玛谢必受重罚 | prophecies that Amaziah will be severely punished |
16“亚玛谢啊，现在你要听耶和华的话！你说 ‘不要向以色列说预言，也不要向以撒家滴下预言’， | 16Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac. |
17所以耶和华如此说：你的妻子必在城中做妓女，你的儿女必倒在刀下，你的地必有人用绳子量了分取，你自己必死在污秽之地，以色列民定被掳去离开本地。” | 17Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land. |
